Early childhood education centres

Schools and early childhood education (ECE) centres have been grouped into learning community clusters based on geographical communities of interest.

The learning community clusters are divided into three categories:

  1. Restore – where low level change, such as earthquake repairs and major works, can be progressed for a cluster of schools, or individual schools.
  2. Consolidate – where moderate-level change is needed to address the declining roll size in schools due to population shifts and decisions on the integrity of buildings and land.
  3. Rejuvenate – where major change and the greatest opportunity for significant innovation exist.

There are 32 ECE services on school sites within greater Christchurch, each subject to a lease agreement under the Ministry’s third party occupancy policy.

Some ECE centres may be affected by changes to the schools network, particularly through mergers and closures.
